Fiber Zero Motto and History

Mission Statement

At Fiber Zero, we are committed to enhancing life and heritage through the promotion of Arts and Cultural activities, fostering a rich blend of diverse cultures. Our aim is to enable everyone, regardless of ability, to enjoy the process of creating and appreciating art.

We believe in the power of art beyond just the visual and verbal. It's a multisensory experience, engaging touch, smell, and even taste. In creating art that can be interacted with on so many levels, we strive to make artistic expression universally accessible. Join us on this journey of creative exploration.

History

Fiber Zero, also known as FIZA, was established in 1998 as a collective of artists in Japan who shared the unique vision of creating artwork meant to engage more than just the visual senses. These pieces were designed to be touched, smelled, worn, or even eaten. In 2001, FIZA expanded its reach as a New York City-based Non-Profit Organization.

FIZA's primary mission involves fostering collaboration between artists from diverse fields and non-artists, including those with physical impairments. Our aim is to create and promote art pieces that invite interaction and to facilitate international art and cultural exchanges.

Between 1998~2008, a highlight of our work is the "Shape of the Sound" project. This biannual international art initiative invites the public to participate in on-site creation and display of interactive art pieces or performances. One of the distinctive features of the project is its ability to connect people, who typically may not have access to creative activities, with each other and with art objects. This provides an opportunity to transcend cultural, linguistic, racial, and physical barriers, and allows participants to experience the excitement of shaping an unpredictable art space.

From 2008 to 2017, we facilitated art activities in school facilities, and from 2013 to 2022, we extended our reach to support organizations in NYC that aimed to initiate art activities. We concluded all our efforts as of 2022, except for our donation activities to other art and cultural organizations. Starting this year, 2023, we are shifting our focus to online service provision, launching a new Literary Art department to disseminate information through e-Books, and dedicating our resources to crafting a creative and enjoyable environment through YouTube and other social media platforms.
